Scrap Yard Dawgs Sign UCLA Bruins Standout, Allexis "Chip" Bennett

CONROE, TX – MARCH 7rd, 2017– Scrap Yard Dawgs General Manager, Connie May, announced today the signing of UCLA standout and two-time NFCA All-American outfielder, Allexis Bennett. The outfielder’s contract extends through the 2018 season with the Dawgs. 
 
A Corona, California native, Allexis “Chip” Bennett will bring a strong element of speed to the Dawgs line-up in 2017. During her time at UCLA she stood out at the plate with a .418 career batting average, 259 hits, 25 doubles, 6 triples and a .473 on base percentage. Her ability to get on base allowed her to score 175 times as a Bruin. In addition, she amassed 61 stolen bases in 78 attempts, 70 RBI’s, 61 walks, a .482 slugging percentage. 
 
Bennett also spent the summer of 2016 as a member of the Softball Women’s Elite National Team. During that time she went to the 2016 Women’s World Cup of Softball and had a standout showing where she went 9 for 18 at the plate with 2 home runs, eight runs scored and seven RBI’s. 
 
During her senior campaign in 2016, Bennett was named to the NFCA All-American Third Team as well as NFCA All-Region and All-Pac-12 First Team. In addition, she was named All-Pac-12 Defensive and won the regular-season league batting title for the second year in a row. In terms of stats she led the Bruins with a .400 batting average, 58 runs scored and 12 stolen bases and was second on the team with a .486 on base percentage, 30 walks, 7 doubles, and 22 runs batted in. 
Chip’s standout season as a Bruin came in 2015 during her Junior campaign where she was a top 10 finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. She was also named an NFCA First-Team All-American, NFCA West All-Region First Team, All-Pac-12 First Team, and All-Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention. She led her team with 27 multiple-hit games, 21 stolen bases, a .529 on base percentage, and a staggering .492 batting average which was ranked fourth in the nation. She continued her offensive leadership by being ranked second on her team with 61 runs scored and being ranked first among Pac-12 players in average and hits with 93. 
 
During her Freshman and Sophomore seasons she established herself as a threat from the left side of the plate. She posted a .357 average in 2013 and a .404 in 2014 which helped earn her All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in both seasons and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team in 2013. 
 
Born Allexis Lauren Bennett in Richland, Washington, she attended Troy High School in Fullerton, California where she played center field and short stop and was named team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in all four seasons. She hit .588 in her senior campaign with a staggering 46 stolen bases. 
 
“Chip is a player that exemplifies a Scrap Yard Dawgs mentality,” said GM Connie May. “She will be a spark plug for our line-up as an offensive triple-threat and her exceptional defense will be a game changer."
